Loons and Luddites

We have more than our share of Luddites in Vermont and the legislature looking to shut down anything that might be more advanced than colonial America.
Is there some congruence of mental disability running through the British House of Commons and the Vermont Legislature?

Snow blankets London for Global Warming debate

How Parliament passed the Climate Bill

Snow fell as the House of Commons debated Global Warming yesterday – the first October fall in the metropolis since 1922. The Mother of Parliaments was discussing the Mother of All Bills for the last time, in a marathon six hour session. [snip]

Recently the American media has begun to notice the odd incongruity of saturation media coverage here which insists that global warming is both man-made and urgent, and a British public which increasingly doubts either to be true. 60 per cent of the British population now doubt the influence of humans on climate change, and more people than not think Global Warming won’t be as bad “as people say”.

The First Church of Sanctimony has many adherents and some priests located in Vermont, preaching the Gospel of Sustainability, better known as the Culture of Poverty. High Acolyte to Lord Gore, W. McKibben, of Mt. Ripton, professes divine knowledge as well he should. His degree is in Theology which is as far from science as one may get and still claim an education.

None of these Poobahs deign to inhibit their life and travel styles. From Gore’s home and house boat to McKibben’s jetting around peddling his pseudo-religious tracts on his enviro views, they use abundant carbon to do so. One may wonder if any use the Chinese made CFL’s (remember to buy local) and if they called the haz-mat team if one broke.

Finally, Would McKibben with all his consummate wisdom, enlighten us as to why the Norse named one island Greenland and another Iceland? Hmmmm?

While you are pondering that, explain this too:

Record snow storm triggers delays

According to MeteoNews, the Swiss lowlands received the most snow for any October since records began in 1931. Zurich received 20cm, beating a record of 14cm set in 1939.
