Here’s one cogent argument against cap-n-trade.
Don’t expect any of the eco-nazis to listen to NASA when the report refutes part of their stated goals, which are confiscatory policies terminating in nationalized energy, auto or any other production resulting in aggregation of power.
Eco-nazis listen to science with the same keenness as Inquisitors listened to heretics and with the same conclusion.

People have blamed the retreat of ice in the Arctic on carbon dioxide driven global warming. However, new research at NASA suggests that environmental intervention in the 1970s could bear most of the blame. The elimination of aerosol particle emissions have removed a cooling element for the northern hemisphere, which has reduced a natural balance in the climate on the effect of human activities:
New research from NASA suggests that the Arctic warming trend seen in recent decades has indeed resulted from human activities: but not, as is widely assumed at present, those leading to carbon dioxide emissions. Rather, Arctic warming has been caused in large part by laws introduced to improve air quality and fight acid rain.

Shindell’s research indicates that, ironically, much of the rise in polar temperature seen over the last few decades may have resulted from US and European restrictions on sulphur emissions.
According to NASA:
Sulfates, which come primarily from the burning of coal and oil, scatter incoming solar radiation and have a net cooling effect on climate. Over the past three decades, the United States and European countries have passed a series of laws that have reduced sulfate emissions by 50 percent. While improving air quality and aiding public health, the result has been less atmospheric cooling from sulfates.

However, there are two things wrong with that argument. First, the modeling is as much unproven as is the CO2-climate-change models are. The latter completely missed the cooling trend of the last few years, which calls into question their entire premise.

That’s because global warming is happening so rapidly, John Holdren told The Associated Press in his first interview since being confirmed last month.
The concept of using technology to purposely cool the climate is called geoengineering. One option raised by Holdren and proposed by a Nobel Prize-winning scientist includes shooting pollution particles into the upper atmosphere to reflect the sun’s rays.

At first, Holdren characterized the potential need to technologically tinker with the climate as just his personal view. However, he went on to say he has raised it in administration discussions.
“We’re talking about all these issues in the White House,” Holdren said. “There’s a very vigorous process going on of discussing all the options for addressing the energy climate challenge.”

Holdren, a 1981 winner of a MacArthur Foundation “genius” grant, outlined these possible geoengineering options:
_ Shooting sulfur particles (like those produced by power plants and volcanoes, for example) into the upper atmosphere, an idea that gained steam when it was proposed by Nobel laureate Paul Crutzen in 2006. It would be “basically mimicking the effect of volcanoes in screening out the incoming sunlight,” Holdren said.
_ Creating artificial “trees” _ giant towers that suck carbon dioxide out of the air and store it.
The first approach would “try to produce a cooling effect to offset the heating effect of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases,” Holdren said.

Or we could stop scrubbing all the stack emissions and save one hell of a lot of money.
